Sanatan Yoga

What Is Sanatan Yoga?

Sanatan Yoga means, eternal yoga. The timeless path of divine union that existed before creation, continues throughout existence, and will remain even after all matter has dissolved.

The word Sanatana in Sanskrit denotes that which is eternal, universal, beginningless (Anadi), endless (Ananta), and everlasting. It refers to the eternal truths and natural laws that guide human life toward union with Divine Consciousness.

Yoga comes from the root Sanskrit word yuj, meaning to join or to unite. It is the union of the individual self with the Higher Self, or the Supreme Reality.

Sanatan Yoga and Sanatan Dharma

Sanatan Yoga arises from Sanatan Dharma (today often called Hinduism), which teaches the eternal principles of righteous living (Dharma). Dharma means our duties and responsibilities in life that help us realise our highest potential.

Through the practice of Yoga, we cultivate physical health, mental clarity, emotional balance, and spiritual awakening—allowing us to live in harmony with these eternal truths in our daily life.

Paths of Sanatan Yoga

Sanatan Yoga is not limited to a single method. It embraces a wide range of authentic yogic practices that have been preserved for thousands of years. These include:

  • Jnana Yoga – the path of wisdom and knowledge

  • Bhakti Yoga – the path of devotion and surrender

  • Karma Yoga – the path of selfless service

  • Raja Yoga – the path of meditation and discipline

  • Hatha Yoga – the path of balance between body and mind

  • Kundalini Yoga – awakening inner energy

  • Mantra Yoga – union through sacred sound

  • Pranayama Yoga – control and expansion of life-force (prana)

  • Tantra Yoga – transformation of consciousness

  • Vyayama Yoga – yogic exercises for strength and vitality

Yogachariya Jnandev primarily follows the Gitananda Yoga tradition, rooted in these authentic teachings, offering a complete system of body, mind, and soul integration.

A Wholistic Approach

At its heart, Sanatan Yoga is holistic—it integrates body, mind, and spirit. Unlike fragmented approaches, it offers a complete way of living based on the eternal wisdom of Sanatan Dharma.

It is not merely physical exercise, but a spiritual discipline and lifestyle that helps us align with universal truths, achieve inner harmony, and realise the divine within.
